Light grades
20 gsm spunbond: the hygiene laminate standard
20 gsm is the grade most hygiene laminates are built on: light enough for coverage, strong enough to run through a laminating line without web breaks.

Why laminators prefer 20 gsm
A laminate needs the web to stay flat under tension and to bond without pinholes. At 20 gsm the web has enough fibre coverage to survive a heated nip, and enough elongation to follow the film without cracking. At 15 gsm the same nip produces pinholes at the edge, which show up as leaks in a finished diaper.
The bonding pattern matters more than the weight
Two 20 gsm webs with different calender patterns behave differently: a denser pattern raises tensile and lowers softness, a sparse pattern does the opposite. Buyers comparing quotations often compare only the weight, then discover the hand feel is wrong after the first roll.
Use outside hygiene
Packaging interlayers, bag liners and protective covers use the same grade, usually with a higher elongation target and no softness requirement. That version is cheaper to make because the pattern can be coarser.
Other weights in this range
This grade sits in the PP spunbond range. Buyers comparing across weights usually ask for two or three of these at sample stage, because the decision is made on the converting line rather than on the data sheet.
- 15 gsm spunbond - 15 gsm spunbond covers the most area per kilogram of any grade we quote. It is.
- 25 gsm spunbond - 25 gsm is the standard outer layer of a three-ply medical mask and the body of.
- 30 gsm spunbond - 30 gsm is the grade where spunbond becomes a structural fabric: mattress pocke.
- 40 gsm spunbond - 40 gsm is the heavy end of standard spunbond: bags that carry weight, separato.

Questions
Common questions
Can 20 gsm be printed?
Yes, with corona treatment before printing. Print on spunbond is usually a functional marker or a logo rather than full coverage.
Is it food contact compliant?
The base polypropylene can be, depending on the additives used. Food contact needs a declaration for the specific grade, not for the product family.
What width is standard?
Line widths up to 3,200 mm, slit to order. Hygiene laminates usually take 1,600 to 2,400 mm.
