Agricultural nonwoven fabric for crop protection
An agricultural cover fails in the field, not in the warehouse. UV life, wind load and how the sheet is fixed decide whether a season is protected or lost.
At a glance
Specification at a glance
| Specification | Typical choice | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Basis weight | Light covers to heavy protection weights | Wind resistance and insulation |
| UV stabilisation | Grade and additive level | Outdoor service life |
| Colour | White, black, green | Light transmission and weed control |
| Air permeability | Grade dependent | Condensation and fungal risk |
| Tensile | MD and CD minimums | Installation tension and wind load |
| Width | Field width plus overlap | Fixings and waste |
Service life needs a test, not an adjective
Suppliers describe covers as long life or multi season. Neither phrase survives a claim. What survives is an accelerated ageing result plus a stated installation condition.
If a supplier quotes a number of months outdoors, ask for the ageing test method and the assumption about sunlight, wind and how the cover is fixed. A 24 month claim tested at one irradiance level in a laboratory is a starting point, not a guarantee for a coastal field.
Air and water movement
A cover that traps condensation creates disease pressure. A cover that lets too much air through loses its insulation value at night. The balance is set by weight and by the bonding pattern, which is why two covers of the same weight can behave differently in the same field.
Tell us the crop, the climate and whether the cover sits on hoops or directly on the plants. Those three answers narrow the choice quickly.
Installation decides the failure mode
Most field failures start at the fixing point, not in the middle of the sheet. Sharp edges, over tensioning and abrasion against wire all shorten life more than sunlight does in the first season.
Our guidance to buyers is written into the quotation: recommended tension, edge overlap and the fixing method for the sheet weight supplied.
Send the crop, climate and field size
Those three answers, plus the fixing method, tell us which agricultural grade fits.
Questions
Common questions
How long does the cover last outdoors?
It depends on the grade, the climate and the installation. We quote the ageing test available for the grade and the conditions it was run under.
Do you supply black weed control fabric?
Black grades are available for weed suppression and mulching. Weight and width are quoted to the bed layout.
What is the minimum order for an agricultural grade?
It follows the run length. Send the field size and the width you need and we will quote the smallest economical run.
Can the cover be reused for a second season?
Reuse depends on the UV package and on how it was handled during removal and storage. Ask for the ageing data before planning a second season.
