Supply and commercial
Why did the price per kilogram change without a design change?
A nonwoven quote is five cost lines stacked, not one number. When the price moves, one of the five moved, and knowing which one tells you whether to renegotiate or accept.
At a glance
Specification at a glance
| Cost line | Share of price | What moves it |
|---|---|---|
| Fibre or resin | 45 to 65 % | Oil price, crop, grade |
| Conversion | 20 to 30 % | Line speed, energy, labour |
| Slitting and waste | 3 to 8 % | Order width versus line width |
| Packing | 2 to 5 % | Pallet, wrap, label, core |
| Freight and docs | 5 to 20 % | Port, container weight, terms |
Why fibre dominates
Viscose and polyester prices move with pulp and oil, and a 10 percent fibre movement is a 5 percent price movement on the roll. That is why quotes carry a validity window and why a supplier who will not name one is telling you something.
The line nobody negotiates well
Slitting waste is the cheapest place to find savings: a width that fits the parent roll without trimming can remove several percent of cost without touching the fibre. Buyers rarely ask, and converters rarely volunteer it.

Questions
Common questions
Is price per kilogram comparable across suppliers?
Only at the same weight, width, packing and terms. Otherwise compare cost per thousand square metres landed.
Why is a narrow width more expensive?
More trim waste and more slitting time per tonne. The parent roll width sets the economics.
How long is a quote valid?
Typically 15 to 30 days for fibre based products. Ask for the validity in writing.
